This week's National Tender Bulletin sees the brakes applied to a month-long stretch of unusually high tender award and cancellation activity. The pull-back follows finance minister Tito Mboweni's tabling of the Medium-term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament last week. One of the key areas stressed by Mboweni was government's need to rein in spending.
While October saw a total of 59 ICT tenders awarded and a further 34 cancelled, November has opened with just three awards and five cancellations.
New opportunities have also seen a decline in number, albeit less markedly. However, the National Library of South Africa provides considerable bulk to the issue with the advertising of eight tenders.
The edition does, however, have much to offer all sectors of the ICT industry, with software, hardware and services advertisements all in the double digits.
