Hyperion upgrades Web access to Essbase

Hyperion Solutions has announced Hyperion Web Gateway 2.0, an enterprise platform for deploying Web-based analytic applications. A live, online demonstration of analytic applications built with Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server and Hyperion Web Gateway can be viewed on the Internet at http://www.hyperion.com.

Hyperion Web Gateway, named one of the "Best Software Products of 1997" by Global Finance magazine, enables management reporting, ad-hoc multidimensional analysis, and rapid development of Web-based analytic applications including read-write applications such as planning, budgeting and forecasting.

Hyperion Web Gateway delivers interactive, multi-user read and write access to Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server over corporate intranets, extranets or the Internet.

Hyperion Web Gateway 2.0 delivers multimedia support, end-user collaboration, analyses, OLAP navigation, extended formatting and enhanced reporting flexibility. When combined with Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server 5, Hyperion Web Gateway provides a scalable, secure and open offering that enables companies to deliver the benefits of Hyperion Essbase to thousands of concurrent users.

"With more than 800 server licences and tens of thousands of users, Hyperion Web Gateway is a widely used and successful platform for extending the power of Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server over the Web," says Mark Williams, MD of the IBD Group, distributor of Essbase. "Hyperion Web Gateway and Hyperion Essbase enable our customers and partners to build a wide range of analytic applications including enterprise management reporting, budgeting, sales forecasting, and performance measurement at a low cost."

"Hyperion Web Gateway offers organisations an ideal platform for developing and deploying analytic applications over the Web," says Bob Moran, director, Decision Support Research at Aberdeen Group. "By allowing users to leverage powerful OLAP navigation and analysis capabilities and automatically create a shared catalogue of server-based reports, Hyperion Web Gateway 2.0 offers organisations a comprehensive solution that addresses a broad range of their enterprise analysis requirements."

New features

  • Multimedia support: Attach any number of multimedia objects, such as documents, images, video, or spreadsheets, to any data cell in Hyperion Essbase. Hyperion Web Gateway users can drill down on a cell to view the multimedia information using a Web browsers. This enables users across the enterprise to share information, and to enrich their analyses with multimedia.
  • User collaboration: End-users can save and publish ad hoc analyses and reports to a shared server-based repository, fostering collaboration and information sharing. Other users can retrieve saved reports and continue gathering new insights.
  • OLAP analyses: Users can navigate between different analytic applications based on common information shared by the applications. This enables users to extend analyses across multiple analytic applications, delivering a unified view of information across the enterprise.
  • Advanced OLAP navigation: Hyperion Web Gateway delivers performance over slow networks such as modem connections, by allowing users to create report formats before retrieving data.

Hyperion Essbase is represented in South Africa by the IBD Group and Hyperion Web Gateway by Global Technology.
