International hardware provider HP aims to take advantage of increasing IT budgets at smaller companies.
In a statement, the company says there are various emerging technologies that can help small and medium enterprises (SME) stay competitive, increase efficiency, enhance productivity, lower costs and improve communication.
"While SMEs are traditionally slow to adopt new technology, the case for such investments is often stronger as a result of quicker decision-making capabilities and more rapid technology benefit realisation," says Yergen Govender, enterprise servers and storage business unit manager at HP.
An April 2006 survey by Forrester Research, entitled "IT Spending in the SMB Sector", indicates adoption of emerging technologies is relatively low among SMEs.
For example, says HP, only 15% of smaller companies planned to deploy networked storage devices. However, the same report says SME IT budgets are on the rise, which presents an opportunity to make new technology investments, points out HP.
The company argues that SMEs should invest in trends that are expected to make an impact this year. These trends include virtualisation, network-attached storage, video conferencing and voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
