Businesses are putting revenue and IT initiatives at risk by protecting their data with old and outdated backup systems that do not offer high availability and give limited recovery time objectives.

So said David Scott, SVP and GM of HP Storage, speaking at HP Discover, in Barcelona, on Monday. "These entities cannot accelerate application performance to the degree that is needed due to the high cost of flash."

They have also hit a bump in the road on their virtualisation journeys, due to unpredictable performance, which makes them reluctant to virtualise more critical applications, he added.

With this in mind, Scott said HP is debuting innovations to its Converged Storage range, including the next generation of HP StoreOnce backup and HP StoreAll archive systems, and is also enhancing its 3PAR StoreServ storage solution.

"Downtime is costing businesses thousands of dollars per hour in lost revenue, which means it is vital that data is protected and can be recovered at top speed. The latest generation of HP StoreOnce backup systems enables customers to more efficiently manage growth by protecting more data in less time," explained Scott.

He cited benefits of the new offerings, including reduced business risk and workflow disruption. HP's StoreOnce backup portfolio is capable of delivering more than four times the backup performance and 10 times faster recovery speed than its closest competitor, he said.

In addition, improved security through StoreOnce Security Pack allows customers to encrypt individual applications on all StoreOnce backup systems, restore encrypted data and securely delete data.

Scott added that risk is lowered when switching from a competing system to HP StoreOnce backup via the HP StoreOnce Get Protected Guarantee Program, which assures clients of a 95% reduction in stored backup capacity consumption.
