Hospital expands TV teaching

Hartford Hospital in Connecticut has installed an HD audio-visual system in its operating room that will allow it to broadcast live surgeries, says Hartford Business.

The system is part of an effort to boost the hospital's reputation in robotic surgery and increase its ability to train surgeons and students around the country. The feeds will allow Hartford Hospital surgeons to discuss what they're doing during a robotic procedure, as they're doing it, with medical audiences across the nation.

While live surgery broadcasts are not necessarily a new thing, using HD quality technology for robotic procedures is.

AV tech boosts decision-making

A recent IDC study has pointed to the increasing importance of audio-visual technology in improving decision-making in factories, states CRN.

According to the market-watcher, visual information can help manufacturers explain complex products to their staff, especially when comparing disparate types of information to globally dispersed workforces.

Joe Barkai, practice director of the product life cycle strategies service at IDC Manufacturing Insights, says: “Visualisation is an effective method for synthesising different data sources and making them accessible to broader communities of decision makers for cross-disciplinary decisions.”

VXi picks Conexant audio solution

Headset solutions provider VXi has selected the CX20562 speakers-on-a-chip audio solution from Conexant Systems, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for imaging, audio, and video surveillance applications, for a new USB headset adapter, reports Market Watch.

VXi's X200 adapter is targeted at computer-based voice communications applications that require high-quality voice and audio including unified communications, VOIP telephony, and speech recognition.

The adapter features Conexant's proprietary noise-reduction and wideband acoustic echo-cancellation technologies, which improve voice and audio quality.
