Healthcare sets sights on cloud
PC maker Dell has geared its cloud-based services towards helping doctors spend less time on administrative tasks and more time helping patients, reports TMCnet.
This follows Dell's acquisition of medical archiving cloud storage provider InSite One. It's expected that by taking advantage of cloud storage, hospitals can reduce data storage costs and free up resources.
According to the International Business Times, Dell will be offering medical archiving-as-a-service as part of its private cloud package.
ESG Research states the medical imaging industry is set to reach a data size of around 2.6 million terabytes by 2014.
According to Information Management, John-David Lovelock, Gartner research vice-president for healthcare, says community hospitals and physician practices will increasingly turn to the cloud and software-as-a-service (SaaS) to meet timelines and tight internal budgets.
“Remote hosting, SaaS and cloud-based services offer pragmatic alternatives that can rapidly accelerate an organisation's time to value,” says Lovelock.
