Healthbridge concludes major acquisition in line with growth strategy

Leading and long-standing health-tech solutions company Healthbridge announces that the South African healthcare industry will gain significant efficiencies from its acquisition of Infosys Software Solutions' Healthcare division. The acquisition, an investment into SA's economy, will enable it to achieve critical mass and set new benchmarks that will uphold and ultimately further raise standards in the medical information-exchange sector.

Providing services under the Healthbridge banner, the newly formed team will service clients out of the Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town offices. Neelesh Sitlu, formerly MD of Infosys, will join Healthbridge's Senior Leadership team. In addition, a specialised technical team, consisting of 12 members will be joining the organisation.

Healthbridge's sophisticated medical information-exchange services integrate with hospitals, pathology laboratories, radiologists and medical aids to process more than R30 billion of transactions in real-time every year. In the 17 years since it first started operating, it has received numerous industry awards and been at the forefront of innovation which has contributed to South Africa's medical sector being regarded as one of the world's most advanced, in terms of systems and efficiency.

The investment unites the 5 000 strong nationwide base of medical practitioners currently served by Healthbridge and a client base of a further 700 strong nationwide base of medical practitioners who are served by an Infosys cloud-based bureau solution.

Commenting on the acquisition, Luis da Silva, MD of Healthbridge, says: "With the dynamics at play in today's healthcare industry, it makes sense for like-minded health-tech creators with similar dreams, values, complementary capabilities and market presences to join forces. We remain committed to investing in initiatives that leverage the emerging technological trends entering healthcare. This acquisition will allow the new Healthbridge to not only improve the speed at which we can deliver our products and services, but to provide broader service offerings that cater for wider segments of the market."

The Infosys Healthcare services division was identified by Healthbridge due to its proven track record in developing multi-disciplinary practice management solutions with leading debtors' management, financial reporting and bureau offerings. Says Sitlu who has now joined Healthbridge's leadership team: "When practice management is simple and efficient, healthcare providers can focus on what matters most - caring for patients."

Since the launch of Healthbridge's myMPS cloud based medical practice service in 2015, more practices have joined Healthbridge than any other practice management service in South Africa. Key to its success was the introduction of the first, integrated Doctor App, which offers the medical professional support during their consultations, but also offers an integrated experience and streamlined communication with the admin staff system.

By including Infosys' resources and talented team members and leveraging technological trends, Healthbridge is liberated to focus on quicker delivery of products and services in meaningful areas of healthcare.
