Grotto Defranceschi, international wine and beverage tank manufacturer and machinery importer, has implemented SystemSkan, to control its IT policy and ensure total data security.
As a technically innovative manufacturer and drawing on decades of experience of its Italian partners, the company needed to ensure its data was protected.
SystemSkan is an internal security management system that is focused on policy enforcement by tracking and controlling all user activity on a computer network.
The solution provides the ability to view, record and restrict activities, including Internet, e-mail, instant messaging and application-specific activities.
"We have recently had incidents where large amounts of proprietary software and data had been copied and removed illegally from our network. We also had a need to control what was being installed and removed from client PCs," says Grotto Defranceschi financial manager Craig Howell.
The company tried other software packages, but it realised they couldn`t track all of the possible variations that could be performed with data eg, File-Save As. SystemSkan was the only product that was comprehensive in its data tracking, and the added features of PC audits and remote control were added benefits.
SystemSkan provides the ability to monitor, control and report on the activities of individuals or groups of users both reactively and proactively.
Administrators have the ability to view, record and restrict individual activities, including document access, application usage, Webmail, and Internet activities.
Furthermore, SystemSkan also includes network utilities such as remote control administration, messaging and task scheduling. It is a simple tool to enforce your IT policy, increase productivity and cut bandwidth costs.
"The benefits of central control and auditing are immense. Client PCs no longer have to be individually programmed, and regular reports enable us to keep an eye on the movement of data and Internet activity. We have split our clients into groups, and allocated different rights to each; disabling CD/DVD drives, USB ports and stiffy drives are among these. Furthermore, we can now control where programmes may or may not be run or installed," adds Howell.
J2 Software managing director John Mc Loughlin says it is amazing to see how many SMEs are identifying the requirement to keep their sensitive information secure and then taking preventative steps by installing SystemSkan.
"We are seeing a massive growth in demand from SMEs, especially in the engineering and manufacturing markets. This just goes to show that the risk of losing sensitive data is definitely a factor, and it is imperative to protect against this in the modern business world."
Unlike basic monitoring products that only provide a report reactively once a security breach has occurred, SystemSkan also provides proactive security features. This proactive functionality prevents policy breaches before they occur by continually and automatically screening all activity, and can be configured to prevent inappropriate activities or lock users` PCs when the company`s policy has been broken. "We are really happy to add Grotto Defranceschi to our growing list of happy customers. It has been a pleasure dealing with them at every level. We look forward to helping them secure their intellectual property for many years to come," says Mc Loughlin.
"The bottom line is that we are now able to implement and control an IT policy and have data security. The installation seemed to go fairly easily, the software is simple to learn and operate as well. The only problems experienced by the installation team were not of their creation; we had an SQL problem on our server. At the end of the day, a software package is only as good as the support offered. J2 Software has proved itself in this regard, with help never more than a phone call or e-mail away. We are impressed," concludes Howell.
