Global Hyatt, an internationally dominant force in the hospitality industry, has integrated its business intelligence tools and financial management applications with the implementation of Hyperion System 9.
In so doing, the hotel and resort giant has addressed its need to better manage the significant amount of financial, forecasting and planning information that is continuously generated by its five operating units in 44 different countries; improved data accuracy, consistency and delivery speeds; and simplified information delivery throughout the organisation.
"Neither standard reporting software nor conventional consolidation software met all our requirements," says Gebhard Rainer, VP for Hotel Finance and Technology at Hyatt International Corporation, a major subsidiary of Global Hyatt.
"Hyperion System 9, however, has empowered our users with direct access to reliable and relevant information. It not only provides financial and operational data, but also overall market data from the hospitality industry and users now have comprehensive information that provides the best possible context for decision-making."
Hyperion System 9 is a comprehensive business performance management system that delivers the financial, operational and market data Global Hyatt users need, in a format customised to their roles and responsibilities, says Marc Scheepbouwer, MD of local Hyperion distributor Intellient.
The solution integrates financial management applications with a business intelligence platform into a single system. Accessed through a standard Web browser, it delivers financial reporting, consolidation, forecasting, planning and scorecarding through a single entry point.
"Our users no longer have to back in and out of multiple applications to piece together information for a clear picture of our performance," Rainer says. "Instead, Hyperion System 9 makes it possible for us to view unified data through one click access, with all users able to look at the same data in the same way. By enabling users to access and analyse data in real-time, the solution has armed us with relevant, accurate information needed to map tactics to strategy and manage day-to-day business in the most efficient, profitable manner possible."
Hyperion partner Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation, played a key role in implementing the Hyperion System 9 solution at Global Hyatt. It provided data warehousing software and technology for external information not captured in Hyperion databases.
Teradata worked with Hyperion to deliver a robust engine for cleansing information received from external parties, making it possible for Global Hyatt users to view accurate data from multiple sources in real-time.
"Just viewing historical data, as used to be the case, was not enough for Global Hyatt anymore," Intellient`s Scheepbouwer says. "By providing a current view, Hyperion System 9 makes it possible for the organisation to extend business performance management down to every manager in the corporation."
John Dinning, VP of solutions marketing and alliances at Teradata, says: "Hyperion and Teradata worked together to provide an integrated organisation-wide solution for Global Hyatt that helps the company make critical decisions. The solution provides visibility, reduces business risk and facilitates improved decision-making for Hyatt`s worldwide operations."
The next step for the implementation will be the deployment of the Hyperion Master Data Management (MDM) capability. MDM will make it possible for Global Hyatt to manage changes down to the various source systems, aiding in the unified collection of data.
Chicago-based Global Hyatt is the holding company of Hyatt Corporation, which manages US, Canadian and Caribbean hotels; and Hyatt International Corporation, which manages international properties. With 213 Hyatt hotels and resorts, consisting of more than 90 000 rooms, Global Hyatt also owns timeshare company Hyatt Vacation Ownership, Hyatt Equities and US Franchise Systems.
