GijimaAst is banking on Intel's vPro technology to help win a competitive edge by being the first to offer it to the local outsourcing market.
A local partnership was formed between the two companies after GijimaAst tested Intel vPro technology and its built-in manageability capabilities using Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) in terms of inventory management, problem diagnosis and resolution, and software deployment.
"We found that the solution could reduce total cost of ownership, improve customer service, streamline asset management, reduce helpdesk calls, and speed up software deployment," says Johan Vorster, group infrastructure solutions architect at GijimaAst.
Intel claims its vPro solution offers remote access capabilities not available in previous generation PCs or software-only solutions. However, the solution requires an Intel AMT-enabled chipset, and specific network hardware and software to work.
According to Vorster, the vPro technology platform brings to the desktop remote management techniques that are independent of whether PCs are running or not. He says this reduces power costs and enables administrators to access PCs whenever necessary.
GijimaAst says Intel's new secure remote management capability will significantly reduce the number of expensive desk-side visits done by the IT outsourcer.
Intel says internal studies have shown that better remote capabilities can reduce desk-side visits by around 40%.
