The Foschini Group (TFG) has signed a deal to renew its point-of-sale and back-office technologies with Argility, the specialist developer of retail solutions.
The new solution will replace the Argility ActiveRetail solution implemented more than a decade ago. The existing solution has been highly customised over the years and has become restrictive in accommodating business change requirements.
“By moving to next-generation technology, TFG will reduce its current support and maintenance costs,” says Lester Aderem, executive, Argility. “More importantly, it will gain the agility and flexibility it needs in today's fast-moving retail environments.”
TFG owns 17 brands with 1 900 stores countrywide. These brands include Foschini, Markham, American Swiss, Sterns, @Home and Totalsports. The multi-year implementation will first see the roll-out of a new custom-developed back-office system based on the Cordys Business Operations Platform. The new solution uses business process modelling and will be implemented process-by-process commencing in September 2012.
The roll-out of the back-office is expected to be finalised by 2014. Thereafter, TFG will implement Argility POS, the company's next-generation point-of-sale application. The modular design will enhance flexibility and lower total cost of ownership. This will provide TFG and its various brands with the customer focus and efficiency demanded by today's retail environments.
“Argility has been our technology partner for 12 years and understands both retail and TFG,” says Iain Bernard, programme manager, TFG Infotec. “The retail industry is becoming more complex and changing at an ever-increasing speed and our store systems need to keep pace with our customers' requirements. Together with Argility, we are creating a solution that will enable TFG to take advantage of the exciting prospects on offer in the retail Industry well into the future.”
