After intensive comparative testing, Touchline Media, the Cape Town-based publisher of Men`s Health, Sports Illustrated and other leading magazines, has chosen Computer Associates` eTrust security software to solve its "number one challenge" in the drive to improve productivity and recover bandwidth lost to unsolicited e-mails and spam.
Willem Swart, Touchline`s IT operations manager, says the challenge the company faced was to eliminate spam and to protect against viruses and other threats.
"As part of Media24 and Naspers, a JSE-listed company, it is important for Touchline Media`s network and its 230 staff members to have the highest levels of protection against viruses and spam," he says.
Touchline is using CA`s eTrust AntiVirus and eTrust Secure Content Manager to secure its environment, increase productivity and comply with regulatory requirements.
"Key factors which we looked for - and found in the CA solution - were ease of use, availability of vendor support and, most significantly, frequent updates of virus signatures and other definitions," says Swart.
"With the help of local IT security specialist Neutec Consulting, we are now looking ahead to increase Touchline`s protection in the future and we`re examining CA`s anti-spyware package - eTrust Pest Patrol - together with the eTrust Vulnerability Manager module, which is an appliance designed to ensure that Touchline`s entire computing infrastructure can be dynamically assessed for vulnerabilities."
Nicholas Freeling, Touchline`s IT and User Support administrator, says the automation of the CA solutions is a key reason the company chose them over those of competitors.
"We can initiate an update for new virus definitions every two hours, and should they be available, they are automatically distributed to all machines and servers. The management interface that we have deployed allows us to verify this and to examine the security status and assess the vulnerability of each machine at any time," he adds.
"As part of Nasdaq-listed Naspers, Touchline`s choice of CA solutions was also driven by their need to comply with executive and regulatory security directives," adds Swart.
These include the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act as well as the US Sarbanes-Oxley Act for corporate governance.
