Envizion readies Evo 2 gaming console

Games hardware outfit Envizion has revealed open Android-based gaming console that's due for release later this year, says The Inquirer.

Envizion claims its upcoming Evo 2 Android games console will be designed specifically for open source developers.

Unlike Sony, which abandoned Linux by locking the 'Other OS' feature on its Playstation 3, Envizion is positively embracing support for open development.

“Evo 2 is an open console and gamers can modify any part of the system,” says Envizion CEO Derrick Samuels.

According to Geeky Gadgets, the Evo 2 will be the first Android gaming console to offer users a real-time gaming playlist and social friend connections.

Under the hood, the new Android console is powered by a Samsung 1.2GHZ processor, supported by DDR2-512MB of memory, and runs a modified version of the Android 2.2 operating system.

Envizions plans to add motion 3D sensor capabilities towards the end of fourth quarter in 2011 and developers can start testing the software via Web site download in two weeks.
