Engen South Africa has implemented Mimecast's e-mail security service, Email Protect, to reduce spam and improve virus protection.
Although Engen had an anti-spam tool employed, it was looking to moving the spam filtering to the perimeter, so spam and malware would be blocked before entering the Engen network. Mimecast's offering met this requirement.
The administration of mail policies has been vastly simplified, which improves governance and control, which is a key focus for Engen. In addition: “Once Mimecast's Email Protect service was implemented, we realised that between 60% and 80% of all e-mail sent and received by staff was not work related. Policies have since been put in place to monitor and combat the problem of personal e-mailing. This knowledge means that we can refocus energy in areas where we get maximum value and benefit,” says Peter du Plooy, CIO of Engen SA.
“A major benefit of the implementation has been the flexible stationery and branding that Email Protect enables,” says Phillip Lotter, Change Manager at Engen. The petrochemicals company sends on average 500 000 e-mails every month, and each of these messages represents a low-cost marketing opportunity. The granular level of control means that different e-mail recipients can receive different marketing messages, allowing for accurate targeting and more focused execution of e-mail branding tactics.
“The system allows us to design multiple stationery set-ups and then rotate them according to season, recipient or even what events are happening at that time. Its incredibly easy to use so new banners can be updated and rolled out in minutes,” says Lotter.
Grant Hodgkinson, Business Development and Alliances Director at Mimecast South Africa, says: “E-mail security is a definite requirement for any business, but that does not mean that the vanilla solution offered by traditional players is necessarily a good fit. Mimecast offers a full breadth of capability to address all e-mail security requirements, including intelligent attachment management, advanced delivery configuration and centrally managed e-mail branding.”
