The global economic downturn and ongoing energy constraints will push cost and energy savings to the top of the CEO's agenda in 2009, giving green IT even more prominence, says ITWeb.

The company will host its Green IT Summit on 7 May at The Forum, in Bryanston. The theme of this year's event is how to deliver real business value by implementing green IT in your organisation.

“This year's programme moves beyond green IT basics to look at other critical components that business should start looking at much more seriously,” says Phuti Mosomane, ITWeb conference producer.

The conference will explore themes such as trading of emission reduction permits and green investment, green IT and ROI, as well as determining the costs and benefits of going green under the current global market conditions.

The one-day event has been specifically designed to provide organisations with insights into how to deploy a green IT strategy that will transform their IT and data centre into more environmentally-conscious and cost-effective operations.

Topics to be discussed include: Examining how to successfully develop a green IT strategy; understanding how sustainable IT can deliver business value; examining the introduction of new green tax systems in SA; assessing the effectiveness of SA's eWaste initiatives; and examining how to green enterprise data centres.
