EMC South Africa has appointed Charlene George as client solutions director of its global services division. George says globally, organisations in every sector are feeling the pressure to move to providing IT as a service (ITaaS) as well as evolve from retrospective BI to analytics of a more predictive nature.
The role will entail marketing the global services that EMC provides, which will assist these organisations with their transformation in these areas. EMC global services is a mature and well-known part of the business in other geographies, but not in SA, where EMC is still seen as a traditional 'storage' vendor, says George.
"By engaging with customers and providing valuable guidance in providing IT as a service and predictive analytics at a strategic level, we are planning to grow the EMC global services market share in SA."
Her long-term goal is to be a part of the business and IT transformation the country is going through and to be a positive influence and leader contributing to the success of EMC and South Africa. "I would like to be a good role model for younger girls who are interested in going into the IT industry and encourage the study of maths and science."
Formerly regional sales manager for Oracle financial services consulting, George has 17 years' experience in the financial services and IT industries. She has also worked for Standard Bank, Cisco Systems and IBM.
