EMC buys FatWire stake

EMC has acquired a stake in Web content management (WCM) vendor FatWire, one of the remaining major standalone WCM players in the market, states ZDNet.

EMC has admitted its current Documentum Web Publisher product simply doesn't have the ability to become a marketing tool for e-business and marketing teams to achieve business goals in the online channel.

FatWire, a leader in Forrester's last WCM Wave evaluation, has strong customer engagement functionality, better than the Documentum Web Publisher offering. With this deal, FatWire gets an improved distribution platform for its WCM, and opportunities for further integration with EMC products such as its digital asset management offering.

Apple locks down iPad

Apple is dusting off FairPlay, the digital rights management used by iTunes, to protect electronic copies of books sold to iPad users, reports The Register.

FairPlay irritated some iTunes users and was dropped for most music content last year. But when the iPad rolls out next month, along with the iBook store, copyrighted content will have some restrictions on its use.

The downside will likely be in the form of hiccups with the technology stopping people doing legal things with their content, and probable fury in opposition to any form of content management.

Digital signatures to ease clinical admin

ARX, a provider of digital signature solutions, plans to present the use of digital signatures in clinical trial management applications at the upcoming DIA's 23rd Annual Electronic Document Management Conference, 'Global content management in an electronic world', says TMCnet.

The Annual Electronic Document Management Conference is an event said to offer participants an opportunity to discuss the challenges associated with managing information in a global environment, while maintaining national and regional regulatory compliance, and also lets participants know the progress toward a green environment.

Reportedly, Rodd Schlerf, life sciences market manager at ARX, will present the benefits of implementing a digital signature solution in clinical environments where there is still prevalent use of paper documents that require compliant approvals
