EADS unveils data solution

EADS Secure Networks has unveiled Fortecor, a new concept for high-speed, professional mobile radio communications.

Solutions based on the new concept are a new way to provide relevant, data-intensive information to the field without compromising security, privacy or confidentiality.

The Boeing Company has won a $4 million US Navy contract to provide a ship-wide communications network for two guided missile destroyers (DDG) now under construction.

The contract, awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Centre, calls for Boeing to supply the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System information transfer system for the DDG 111 and 112 destroyers. Boeing will deliver electronic components over the next 12 months to support ship building schedules.

Under a contract awarded in 2007, Boeing continues to support the installation and checkout of the Fibre Optic Data Multiplex System for DDG 110.

The FBI has awarded Lockheed Martin a 10-year, $1 billion contract to develop and maintain the Bureau's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, a multi-modal, state-of-the-art biometrics system for use by state, local and federal authorities.

"We were proud to collaborate with the FBI on the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, the largest system in the world of its type," said Judy Marks, president of Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Solutions. "We're tremendously pleased to partner with the agency once again to deliver the next quantum leap in capability."

The NGI system will expand fingerprint capacity, doubling the size of the current database, and will also include palm prints, iris and facial recognition capabilities. Additionally, the system requires a significant degree of technical flexibility in order to accommodate other biometric modalities that may mature and become important to law enforcement efforts in the future.

Saab has won a $310 million order from Thailand for Gripen fourth-generation fighter aircraft and an advanced airborne surveillance system to direct the fighters in air combat.

"This further strengthens Gripen's position on the export market. There is a great interest for Gripen today and several important export deals will be settled within the next few years. This agreement also strengthens our position within the area of airborne surveillance and advanced command and control systems," says Saab CEO Ake Svensson.

The complete system will monitor and protect Thailand's airspace. Deliveries will be made in the beginning of 2011.
