Don`t panic, it`s only a game

In Crisis Zone, you play a member of a specialised police strike squad who has to end a terrorist occupation. The plot may not be in-depth, but there is enough fast-paced shooting to keep most players happy.

Crisis Zone is Namco`s latest gun game, and while it doesn`t have an in-depth story, it is fast-paced.

However, since I`ve never played a gun game on PlayStation before and don`t have the actual gun to fully enjoy the game, this review may be insufficient to base your decision on the full purchase value of the game.

First off, it must be mentioned that you do need a gun to play this game, as the gamepad is simply too slow in the aiming department for one to be able to advance.

I spent two weeks playing and only barely made it to the second level, and the only way I even managed that was by predicting where terrorists were going to appear. I think the game will be much easier once I purchase a gun.

The title menu offers you the option of going straight into the action, or you can practise in the training section, where you are able to upgrade certain aspects of your arsenal, like increased ammo, armour and weaponry.

The story is fairly basic. You are part of an infiltrating specialised police team that has to retake areas that have been overrun by terrorists.

You go in as a squad, but the rest of your team doesn`t offer much assistance. Although the stages begin slowly, the game soon develops into a fast action-based slaughterhouse.

At the end of every stage are bosses that seem strong until you find their weak points, after which they can be dispatched with relative ease. The only difficult areas are the ones where masses of enemies appear at random. Unpredictability + slow aiming = disaster.

The areas and the pace of the game will keep you focused and there is hardly any time to relax, while the scenes are well laid out and the navigation of the game is continuous and well planned.

Overall I found the game entertaining, even though I had no gun. It does have a 16+ age restriction, although I feel it can be enjoyed by slightly younger kids, as the violence isn`t bloody or gruesome.

I don`t know how long the game is but even if you have to repeatedly play it, it doesn`t lose any of its play value.
