Dimension Data, the London-listed network services and i-Commerce solutions provider, has implemented a mission-critical Local Area Network (LAN) at Toyota`s largest European production site.
And now that installation and commissioning of the network is complete, Dimension Data France provides the giant vehicle manufacturer with 24x7 remote, real-time maintenance. On-site intervention provided within four hours when necessary.
Located at Onnaing in the Valciennes region in France, the new plant employs some 2 000 people. Over 150 000 vehicles, including Toyota`s exciting new Yaris model which was launched in January, will roll off the production line this year.
But meeting production targets required the implementation of a high-availability, industrial strength computer network which links 720 Toyota employees located in several office buildings and workshops as well as on the production lines.
Toyota`s IT consultants, NTT Communications, recommended Dimension Data France for the job of providing such a network, because of Dimension Data`s high level of expertise on the Cisco platform. Dimension Data is a Cisco Global Partner.
In the first phase of the project, Dimension Data designed the network based around an open-ended FastEthernet architecture solution which incorporates Cisco high availability hubs, and an administration solution supporting HP/OV and Cisco Works. Dimension Data was then responsible for the implementation of the solution, including the staging of the equipment, logistic installation, configuration and integration of the systems in order to maximise performance.
And now Dimension Data is tasked with ensuring the network health as major faults could bring production at the plant to a standstill.
