Data science institution ExploreAI Academy is offering three fully-paid bursaries to applicants looking to pursue a career in data science in 2023.
In a statement, the academy says the bursaries are worth R70 000 each.
“For ambitious and talented young people, this is the chance of a lifetime to change their future career trajectory through training as a data scientist or data engineer,” says Pete Kropman, head of growth for ExploreAI.
Formerly the Explore Data Science Academy, ExploreAI offers a 12-month full-time and part-time courses in data science or data engineering.
The institution was founded in 2017 by data scientists Shaun Dippnall, Dave Strugnell and Aidan Helmbold. It was launched with the aim of meeting the burgeoning demand for data analytics in the digital economy – a demand that far exceeds current supply.
The 2022 JCSE-IITPSA ICT Skills Survey found growing demand for fourth industrial revolution skills, particularly in areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, along with developers and cyber security specialists.
According to the statement, the bursaries are only applicable for ExploreAI Academy’s courses that start on 16 January 2023.
Once entered, the applicant must then use every means at their disposal to encourage others within their social circle or networks to enter the competition as well.
“There is no limit to the number of people that can be referred, but each referral must enter the competition as well before the additional entry will be awarded. Each referral that comes as a result of applicants’ efforts before the closing date will net the entrant bonus entries. The three entrants with the most entries will have their course fee in 2023 fully covered.”
Kropman adds: “Creativity is key here – using their social media networks and contacts with friends, colleagues, associates and family, they will encourage other ambitious potential data scientists to follow their example and enter too.”
