Clarifying potential confusion: Volition, e-Logics and LogicsLink

It is important to clarify the positioning of and relationship between Volition and e-Logics

* Volition Consulting Services is the leading independent supply chain consulting company in South Africa.

We adopt a business-process driven approach, focusing on the bottom-line result of "the way people do things". As a professional services company, we offer specialist skills to address supply chain challenges; being independent of software products or 3rd party logistics services ensures that we identify appropriate solutions.

* e-Logics is a leading Microsoft Independent Software Vendor, developing software and solutions that focus on process optimisation and automation. The current primary focus is on the business and engineering logistics domains but other domains will also be targeted. Due to the use of adaptive object modelling, products are highly customisable to support changes in business processes.

A symbiotic relationship exists between Volition and e-Logics, expressing itself in the LogicsLink toolset for supply chain planning and logistics optimisation:

* Volition (based on business knowledge) specifies relevant requirements for software development. In return, the consultants have the right to use the software to improve delivery effectiveness.

* e-Logics (based on software knowledge) ensures meta-data driven development that fast-track customisation, which increases the sales value of software licences.

The historical development of LogicsLink provides some insight into functionality:

* The functionality of the product originated from transportation and routing optimization, applying advanced versions of the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) algorithm (Pick and Pay Home Shopping).

* Collaborative transportation management functionality was added for primary transport (Clover, Earlybird Farm)

* Geo-graphical display functionality, using thematics was added to support the analysis of supply chain networks (SBV, Nedbank).

* Integrated network modelling, considering manufacturing routing alternatives, was developed (Holcim)

* Inventory optimisation functionality was added to encapsulate the logic developed by Volition through numerous client engagements.

* Volition's proven business intelligence solutions expertise is being leveraged to add Cost-to-Serve reporting.

* Volition's proven systems integration expertise is being leveraged to enhance the application of LogicsLink as a supply chain integration enabler. The most relevant application at this stage is to support tactical planning, largely focused on supporting supply chain synchronisation (S&OP) processes.

* Other similar tactical planning elements are being added as client needs arise

* Microsoft Business Scorecard Manager is now being integrated as the KPI front-end.
