Cisco develops network engineers

Cisco plans to help India increase its number of networking engineers from about 60 000 today to 360 000 in five years, states Information Week.

The plan entails training and certifying these engineers on Cisco technologies. Cisco says it has established partnerships and is opening testing facilities to meet that workforce goal.

Two of India's largest tech training organisations, Indian Institute of Hardware Technology and National Institute of Information Technology, have become certified for training on Cisco technologies.

NTT America, a subsidiary of NTT Communications, has appointed Kazuhiro Gomi as CTO effective immediately, says FOX Business.

In his new role, Gomi will be responsible for the company's technology procurement strategy for optimal technology and vendor selection, industry relations and standardisation efforts, and overall product portfolio management across all three business units at NTT America.

Gomi was involved in various R&D projects at NTT and held senior positions at NTT Labs' central research organisation in Japan prior to his assignment to lead the US operations of NTT Communications' Global IP Network business unit.

Harris Stratex Networks, a supplier of wireless transmission solutions, including wireless Carrier Ethernet, will participate in the first public multi-vendor Mobile Backhaul Interoperability showcase, reports FOX Business.

The event will be held at the upcoming MPLS and Ethernet World Congress in Paris, 5 to 8 February, at the Marriott Paris Rive Gauche.

The showcase is organised by the European Advanced Networking Test Centre and supported by the IP/MPLS Forum and the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).
