Bytes Document Solutions (BDS) has appointed Alick Burger, a chartered accountant [CA (SA)], as its new financial manager. He takes over from Perry Hurri, who has moved into the role of financial director at the company. Burger's key focus will be on financial accounting, accounts payable, treasury, payroll and internal audit. His primary responsibility will be to directly manage and control the finance operations for BDS.

"Burger brings a wealth of experience and skill to this role," says Johan Basson, CEO of BDS. "His impressive track record, strong work ethic and extensive exposure across the SARS brand, combined with our already established finance leadership team, will help strengthen our financial position and drive our mission to provide value-added solutions while remaining relevant in the face of changing market dynamics."

Burger completed his CA training at SARS and has had extensive experience managing several of the receiver's operations, including the management of staff debtors, SARS' subsistence and travel administration, as well as the monitoring and management of SARS' fleet services. Before joining SARS, Burger spent a brief period at companies Havenga, Rossouw & Viljoen and Lucisco Business Advisors, as a CA (SA) trainee and a consulting accountant respectively.

Burger is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, with the designations "Associate Charted Management Accountant" and "Chartered Global Management Accountant", a global designation. His personal philosophy is to set high standards, go the extra mile, balance task- and people-orientation and balance work and family interests. He has a keen sense of humour, which, he says, "sees him through difficult times".
