After 25 successful years at the helm of Brother Business Machines (Pty) Ltd, James Booysen, current Managing Director, recently announced his retirement. Booysen established the company in 1981 and secured sole distribution rights for the Brother brand of printers, fax machines, multifunction centres, typewriters and consumables for southern Africa.
In 1996, Brother Business Machines (Pty) Ltd was incorporated into the Mustek Ltd Group in an agreement which saw Booysen retain a 30% shareholding and effective management of the company until his retirement. In the spirit of transformation in South Africa and the broad-based black economic empowerment policy, a 30% shareholding was sold to Puno Printing Solutions Investments, a black-owned enterprise. The deal was backdated to 1 July 2005.
In light of these exciting changes, the company will, as of 1 June 2006, start trading as Brotek (Pty) Ltd. The Brotek board will be made up of Nkenke Kekane and Mpho Scott, both from Puno; David Kan and Mike Hennessy, both from Mustek; and Booysen, who will remain on as chairman/managing director until December 2006. Munna Desai has been appointed as chief executive officer.
Desai has been involved in the IT industry since 1978, and has been part of Mustek Electronics` management since December 2000. His many years of experience, as well as his extensive expertise in the office automation industry, will prove a valuable asset to Brotek.
Brotek will continue to distribute the Brother brand of office automation equipment in South Africa and our neighbouring countries. All existing management and staff will remain with the company, thus the strong commitment to the Brother product and Global Vision will be maintained and built on in the years to come.
