Brocade awards partners for convergence

Brocade Communications Systems has incorporated into its Alliance Partner Network a shift in focus to reward channel partners that delve into virtualisation, convergence and cloud computing technologies, reports IT Channel Planet.

Behind the changes is a framing of the programme to “address dominant trends in the industry -virtualisation, convergence and the cloud - and driving the need for core solutions-led selling with our partner base,” says Barbara Spicek, Brocade vice-president, worldwide channels.

According to Spicek, under the new guidelines, partners will be able to advance from one programme tier to a higher level and earn associated rewards and benefits through training, attaining certifications and commanding convergence technologies.

LG Uplus, Facebook partner

LG Uplus and global social networking giant Facebook signed an agreement to cooperate on developing mobile services, aiming to strengthen communication for customers, states Korea Herald.com.

“We will enable our customers to use the social networking service without having them spend any of their data distributed accordingly to the monthly payment plan for the following six months,” says Kim Cheol-soo, executive vice-president of convergence project team at LG Uplus.

LG Uplus' feature phone users will also be able to write messages on Facebook by sending them to #2665. They will automatically receive any messages sent to them on Facebook through text messages.

Defence industry sees open standards

Emerson Network Power and Mercury Computer Systems are teaming up to create interoperability on open standards-based subsystems for military and aerospace applications, says TMCnet.

This collaboration will enable defence customers to migrate their performance away from proprietary closed architectures to flexible open solutions. This will not only reduce risk but will also lower development and deployment costs.

“This collaboration reflects the move to open architecture-based computing infrastructures to support the convergence of applications in the defence industry,” says Stephen Dow, president of the embedded computing business of Emerson Network Power.
