Stakeholders in the African broadband sector will meet this week to share knowledge and insight on how to grow business opportunities through innovative broadband solutions.
The third annual Broadband Summit, hosted by the Institute of International Research Conferences, takes place on 26 and 27 February, at the Southern Sun Grayston Hotel, in Sandton.
Participants will share strategies for increasing Africa's accessibility to broadband, gain an overview of the latest alternative technologies to drive market growth, and obtain updates on the latest regulatory and policy developments which impact on their business, say organisers.
Content and speakers
Speakers include Neotel head of strategy Angus Hay, who will discuss Neotel's new services and the challenges the second national operator is facing. Neology technical director Regardt van de Vyver will discuss the Johannesburg Broadband Network. His presentation pays particular attention to the challenges of creating an open access broadband network.
Also speaking will be Eric Osiakwan, executive secretary of AfriSPA; Tim Lowry, MD of MTN SA; Brian Seligmann, MTN senior marketing manager; and Dominic Cull, an advisor to the Internet Service Providers Association of SA.
Sadiq Malik, a director at Broadband Communication Technologies; Guy Zibi, of Pyramid Research Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Rudolph Muller, founder of MyADSL, will form part of panel discussions, which will look at the impact of convergence on African broadband businesses.
Conference content includes an overview of how satellite technology is used to provide broadband services in Africa and an evaluation of the future of WCDMA, 3G and HSDPA.
