Bournemouth gets 100Mbps broadband

Fibreband is the first Internet service provider to take advantage of CityFibre's revolutionary fibre to the home (FTTH) network in Bournemouth by launching superfast Gigabit broadband services with minimum symmetrical speeds of 100Mbps, Response Source reports.

Adam Troman, GM of Fibreband, said: “As a local service provider, we understand the needs of the people of Bournemouth and want to provide a mould-breaking broadband service that is the envy of other towns and cities across the UK.”

CityFibre's network is unique in that the fibre-optic cable is connected directly to the property, which means there is no compromise to the speeds that can be achieved, now or in the future.

According to Broadband Choice, some 250 homes in the BH10 and BH11 postcode areas have been invited to take part in a trial of the fibre-optic broadband product, which allows subscribers to upload content at the same speed as they download it.

Those who sign up for the pilot scheme will be able to use the service free of charge. An online checker has been established for people keen to see if the fibre broadband proposition is available in their community.

uSwitch states that CityFibre Holdings has been working to complete the network originally started by the i3 Group, which mothballed the project last autumn after running into financial difficulties.

Services have now resumed, with an initial 24 000 homes able to sign up for ultra-fast fibre broadband, and 14 000 more set to follow in the near future.
