God of War is set in Ancient Greece at a time when gods and goddesses were feared above all: "Whether by mortals or immortals, a time where the gods should never be angered. Should such a soul try, they would certainly feel the wrath of the gods."

The characters in the game rate among some of the best and most ferocious monsters I have encountered thus far: half-man, half-vulture flying creatures mingle with the numerous gods and goddesses.

The gamer is Kratos, one of the two main characters, which eventually become adversaries. The other, Ares, God of War.

Kratos is a young, courageous, incredibly fierce general of a huge Greek army. Said to be the youngest general the ancient world has seen, every army he has encountered fears him. However, Kratos is power hungry; and seeks it ruthlessly.

The tragic hero is reduced to nothing, when his army is outnumbered barbarian forces.

Kratos, about to be killed by the leader of the barbarians, summons the help of the God of War. He offers his life to Ares if he saves him, vowing to serve him until the end of time.

Kratos, in his desperate situation, does not realise the enormity of his bargain - and so the game begins.

The other gods promise Kratos that by destroying Ares, he will be freed from slavery, but the only way a mortal can kill a god, is by possessing Pandora`s Box - the most powerful of all weapons.

There is an intriguing, yet cruel twist to the game, which is the reason Kratos decides to summon help from the goddess Athena, sister to the Ares and daughter of Zeus.

An adventure jam packed with bloody, classic, intense combat and intriguing puzzles. The overall production and finish deserves praise. Combat gaming and puzzle-solving is blended perfectly. The result is the gamer is never bored, but rather, on edge for the next level.

The graphics are amazing and by far superior to other games on offer. The sound and effects, in relation to timing and interaction with objects are superb and very precise, enhancing gameplay significantly. Controls and controlling your character are exact, fairly simple and easy to get used to.

Combat scenes and gameplay is exhilarating and fun, and I could hardly wait for the next battle. As the game progresses, new combos are gained by collecting orbs, and no combo is too difficult to master. Each hit feels better and looks really really good.

A classic adventure with a very dramatic, deep and dark story line. One of the best adventure games to hit the shelves in a long time. A game that unquestionable lives up to its hype.
