Banco Sabadell selects SAP to optimise human capital management

* Duet Software selected to provide simplified access to SAP business processes via Microsoft Office environment. * Bank to align employee objectives to corporate initiatives with SAP ERP Human Capital Management.

SAP (NYSE: SAP) today announced that Banco Sabadell, one of the leading banking groups in Spain, will transition all of its human resource management processes - utilised by more than 10 000 employees in its financial group - onto the SAP ERP Human Capital Management (SAP ERP HCM) solution.

Such an initiative underscores the main reason why banks need an HCM solution, which is the need to align employee objectives with those that are strategic to the company. One of the key aspects of this project will be the implementation of Duet software, a jointly developed product by SAP and Microsoft that allows users to interact with SAP business processes and data through Microsoft Office applications. This project will be one of the largest implementations of Duet on a worldwide scale in a financial entity to date.

SAP ERP HCM, based on the SAP NetWeaver technology platform and a core component of the services-enabled SAP Business Suite applications, will provide Banco Sabadell with an enterprise-wide human capital management solution that will enable the implementation of strategies to manage employee operational processes and talent management. SAP ERP HCM will also allow for the strategic planning and simulation of employee costs, as well as analysis of employee retention. With SAP, Banco Sabadell will also have a comprehensive dashboard to integrate and unify all human resource information, both transactional and analytical. In addition, with SAP the bank will be able to analyse relevant information through multiple views.

"High reliability and seamless integration with the rest of our components and functionality were critical factors in our decision to select SAP," said Federico Rodriguez Castillo, director of Information Systems, Banco Sabadell. "SAP provides us with the tools we need to achieve our objectives."

Banco Sabadell selected SAP because it aligned with the bank's strategic initiative, "Optima'09 master plan," which focuses on operational efficiency and innovation. Banco Sabadell's initiative requires effective and simple HCM solutions with established agile and flexible human resource management and policies. As a forward-looking bank, Banco Sabadell wants to empower its employees through consolidated processes with technology to reach their strategic objectives. Moreover, it is imperative that Banco Sabadell has an application that is easy-to-use in order to achieve rapid acceptance and results.

Employees expect to see added benefits through the availability of self-service tools that enable efficient information and communication flow, such as distributed portals that are dependant on the various roles (managers, employees, human resource managers, etc). These result in better distribution of information and workflow by transforming the roles of employees as "demand for tasks and information" into "active processors" within the organisation, which increases performance.

Today, Banco Sabadell employs other SAP applications, both for internal management of financial processes and controlling, and for the management of purchasing, logistics, budget management, fixed assets and facilities management.

"We are proud that Banco Sabadell selected SAP to help empower its employees to access the information they need for getting the job done," said Julian Johnson, senior vice-president, Industry Business Solutions, Global Field Operations, SAP. "Employees are the key to effective customer service and that is why banks are turning to SAP not only for our industry-leading banking solutions, but also for our SAP core applications to help them better manage their most valuable asset - people."
