In future, the management of a world-class infrastructure, assets, reporting incidents and doing business will be a breeze for the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) and its customers, as the world-renowned service and asset management system MAXIMO is currently being implemented and will be launched on 11 August 2009.
The ELIDZ, as part of its responsibility to own and operate a zone, manages and maintains a wide range of assets. These assets include infrastructure and superstructure from buildings, roads, electrical substations, standby generators, transformers, pumps, desks, chairs, air conditioners and computers. The ELIDZ also has to manage and deliver a number of key services to zone enterprises, which are supported by the asset environment.
MAXIMO will provide the ELIDZ employees, its tenants and service providers with a single point of reference when dealing with the company. Commenting about the benefits of utilising MAXIMO, Powertech IST Data project manager Gavin Barbier says: “With the MAXIMO service and facilities management solution, a single repository will be created where the various ELIDZ business units, tenants, service providers and employees will have access to a Service Desk, which will be the single point of reference.”
Explaining the types of services MAXIMO will perform to ensure that doing business and maintaining infrastructure runs efficiently, Barbier says all faults and incidents will be reported by phone, e-mail or SMS to the service desk.
“The requester will receive information of the logged call and will also receive continued notifications of progress regarding the specific request.” According to Barbier, when a requester contacts the Service Desk, the operator verifies the details on MAXIMO, and forwards the query to the relevant business unit. Once it appears on the unit's contact persons' “Start Centre Inbox”, the individual will take ownership and ensure the request is carried through successfully.
MAXIMO users can use the facility to log any fault, ranging from out-of-order streetlights to defective air conditioners and faults with infrastructure and superstructure.
"The complexity of modern-day facilities management forced us to look for a solution that is flexible, scalable and cost-effective, such as MAXIMO," says Mickey Moodley, ICT Manager at ELIDZ. "MAXIMO's impressive track record in the facilities management environment on a global scale supported our decision to implement MAXIMO above other solutions we evaluated."
The MAXIMO solution can also be used for other ELIDZ business activities, including:
* The management of contracts and service level agreements.
* The integration of various transactions with the existing East London IDZ financial system in order to keep an accurate record of all transactions for audit processes.
* Asset and service management to ensure that planned statutory work is done within the specified timeframe and according to the stipulated requirements.
MAXIMO offers functionality that will automate and centralise the facilities management process through a fast, flexible, scalable and cost-effective solution.
