Microsoft Technology Partner and provider of global, end-to-end solutions for real-time infrastructure, American Power Conversion (APC), has been chosen to protect the Microsoft Technology Centre (MTC) in Durban, maintaining constant availability with its InfraStruXure architecture.
APC InfraStruXure allows companies to easily build a complete availability solution for server rooms, data centres or wiring closets. Based on the concept of Network-critical Physical Infrastructure (NCPI), the physical foundation upon which IT and telecommunications depend, InfraStruXure incorporates all the components of NCPI - power, cooling, security and fire protection, cabling, as well as management and servicing - into a rack-optimised format.
"APC has once again been chosen as the exclusive power protection vendor for Microsoft`s newest Technology Centre," Neill Schreiber, team leader: Southern Africa at APC. "The availability of the systems housed in an MTC is paramount to the Microsoft customer experience. The use of APC solutions in Durban will ensure that the valuable time spent in the centre will not be interrupted due to power problems.
"The InfraStruXure architecture allows for the selection of standardised components to create a solution through modular and mobile configurations. This standardisation enables an easily scalable architecture designed to meet changing needs and future expansion.
"InfraStruXure also allows companies to increase system reliability, quickly recover from change and reduce human error," he says. Soon, Durban corporates will be able to take the an APC tour programme at the new Durban MTC, which allows Microsoft customers to take a self-guided tour of the APC components that support the centre.
Making use of APC`s "See It to Believe It" (Sitbi) concept, the Durban MTC will enable users to learn about the latest trends in data centre design through an interactive tour. Updated for 2006 with new InfraStruXure rack, cooling and IT security solutions, the self-paced interactive demonstration features handheld organisers and headphones.
Microsoft developed the technology centres to provide a best of breed showcase of the leading technological solutions available, where customers can come to seek new approaches to the difficult challenges they face in their corporate work environments. Using the facilities at the MTC, Microsoft helps customers to envision, develop and fine-tune their software applications to provide the solutions they need to support their changing business needs.
