One hundred thousand users of the Ananzi free e-mail system were left stranded on Sunday and yesterday, after the local search engine company's server malfunctioned, says Ananzi MD Mark Buwalda.
According to Buwalda, the server that handles the service began overheating on Sunday and then malfunctioned. However, he says all the data, such as stored e-mails, have not been compromised because the hard drives were not affected and can be accessed.
"We are now 95% back on track with our e-mail clients; unfortunately we are still having some difficulty with people who have registered their accounts recently," he says.
Buwalda says the service breakdown was not due to an attack of any type.
E-mail accounts that were affected have an @ananzi.co.za suffix.
