Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) announced its participation in the Vodacom Career Exhibition, which opens today and is being held at the Pretoria show grounds.
The event enables attendees to gather information about career opportunities, and provides Alcatel-Lucent and other participating companies the chance to interface with future leaders of South Africa as they contemplate what careers to pursue.
The exchange enables Alcatel-Lucent to demonstrate career opportunities available to prospective ICT professionals, and showcases the importance of telecommunications in the global economy and, more specifically, the leadership role that Alcatel-Lucent plays in the industry, including close involvement with key business partners such as Vodacom.
Being more than a solutions provider to Vodacom, Alcatel-Lucent is also a partner on social initiatives such as providing in-service practical training to some Vodacom students.
"Alcatel-Lucent is well positioned to add value, both to our customers and in skills development in the important ICT sector in South Africa," said Philippe Guiller, Vice-President of Alcatel-Lucent's South and East Africa activities. Participating in the Vodacom Careers Expo is thus very much in line with our corporate social responsibility programme."
Specific examples of ICT skills training, which are supported by in-kind and/or financial support include: research and development initiatives for students studying at KZN University and the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), providing resources such as lecturers and an incubation centre on site at TUT, and partnerships with FSATIE (The French South African Technical Institute in Electronics) enabling students to undertake study assignments in France at top French institutions such as ESIEE (Ecole Sup'erieure d'Ing'enieurs en Electronique et Electrotechnique) and ENST (Ecole Nationale Superieure de Telecommunication).
