Branded business and technology solutions provider Lorge has supplied, installed and commissioned an Accpac ERP 200 financial and accounting software solution for fast-growing pharmaceutical company Pharmaplan at its Midrand headquarters.
Pharmaplan represents a strong core of small to medium-sized international pharmaceutical principals in South Africa and other sub-Saharan territories, offering a wide range of products in a variety of fields including dermatology, neurology, gynaecology, oncology and nutrition.
Riekie Roux, managing consultant at Lorge's Accpac business unit, said a full back office Accpac accounting and financial system has been installed, including a stock management system to control and manage the wide range of products that are supplied to pharmacies throughout South Africa and other African countries.
"Our solution included installing Accpac Insight, which provides business intelligence through an enterprise-wide reporting, budgeting and consolidations application," said Roux. "It enables Pharmaplan to generate daily sales reports per division and per product. Comparisons can be made against budgets and monthly sales targets, and product movement monitoring ensures timely re-ordering of products."
Pharmaplan financial manager Jaco Roos said the company functions as a "virtual subsidiary" for its partners with marketing and sales teams taking care of the products of the various principals. Non-strategic functions such as order processing, administration, warehousing and distribution are shared.
"The Accpac ERP 200 solution implemented by Lorge has resulted in an environment where timely and accurate management information can be relied upon," added Roos.
"We work with our international partners on an arm's length basis. We are responsible for all aspects of the business from registration, marketing and sales, to distribution and collection of payments."
Pharmaplan has been operating as an importer and distributor of niche speciality/biotechnology medicines since 1996 and is a fully-fledged pharmaceutical company, approved by the Pharmacy Council and Medicines Control Council to hold registration licences. "Our therapeutic areas of expertise include oncology, dermatology, gynaecology, radiology, nutrition, psychiatry and neurology, as well a range of products predominantly used in private and government hospitals," said Roos. "A full spectrum of services from product registration, regulatory requirements, marketing and sales to distribution, including the cold chain requirements of some products, is also part and parcel of our offering."
