15 years on, Business Connexion still prefers Metrofile

Over the past 15 years, Business Connexion has found Metrofile to be an efficient and cost-effective electronic media storage and retrieval service provider for managing a number of its largest outsourcing clients.

Business Connexion appointed Metrofile as its partner in 1990 and regularly updates the contract to include new clients including some of the country`s largest blue-chip organisations.

"Our clients require a reliable off-site storage provider that can ensure backup data is stored in a safe and reliable manner," says Anton Reyneke, manager of Outsource Support Services at Business Connexion. "Metrofile delivers this at competitive costs, and since the benefits are tangible, most of our clients are either using or switching to Metrofile."

Business Connexion is a black-empowered company, with a 25-year track record of integrating competitive, innovative ICT-based business solutions with offices in all major centres of South Africa. It has over 4 500 employees, of whom nearly 30% are from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The group manages products, services and solutions for key public sector organisations, parastatal enterprises and a host of medium-sized emergent companies.

Metrofile is an Empowerdex BBB-rated empowerment company and is committed to helping customers reduce costs and improve productivity in processes that are centred on documents and corporate records.

Of Business Connexion`s major clients using the Metrofile service, most are storing mainframe tapes as well as open system and DAT cartridges.

Business Connexion has compared Metrofile with its competitors and found the service to be competitively priced.

"One of Business Connexion`s clients in the financial sector has tested Metrofile at least twice by simulating disasters and both times Metrofile had the backup tapes restored within the one-hour service level agreement," says Reyneke. "The client in question is unique in that it requires tapes to be restored within one hour while all other Business Connexion clients have a two-hour service level agreement.

"We remove the requirement for warehouse space by providing national off-site storage centres, catering for paper and digital volumes," says John Woodhouse, vault manager at Metrofile. "Corporate governance legislation is making demands on companies that few can adhere to easily without the help of specialist companies like Metrofile. Metrofile services remove the need for companies to build their own infrastructure and expertise."

The storage and retrieval service provider currently stores and manages over four million boxes of customer records nationwide and uses sophisticated data management and networking software to ensure efficient and timeous access by clients to their files. Through the development and introduction of software systems, clients have direct Web access to the Metrofile warehouses through their own computer systems.

Its complement of services includes:

* Document storage;
* Magnetic media storage;
* Document management software systems;
* Scanning and microfilm services;
* Hosted and fully managed document imaging solutions; and
* MetroMedia - a range of filing stationery products.

Business Connexion uses combinations of these services daily, weekly and monthly, depending on its clients` needs.

Metrofile

Metrofile, an Empowerdex BBB-rated empowerment company, is the South African market leader in the management of business documents, and is committed to help customers reduce costs and improve productivity in processes that are centred on documents and corporate records.

All companies have a combination of paper and electronic documents, and are forced by law and customer requirements to secure the availability of the documents for the duration of their lifecycle. For most organisations, the volume of documents is growing at an exponential rate, and is becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

Metrofile is uniquely positioned to provide consulting and implementation of full lifecycle paper and electronic records management solutions from storage and conversion through to destruction.
