Vodacom Business has signed a multimillion-rand contract that will see large consulting, engineering and management business BKS Group host its systems in Vodacom`s new data centre.
The service provider has been contracted to integrate BKS`s 17 offices both in SA and around Africa onto its Multi-Protocol Label Switched (MPLS) network. As a technology, MPLS networks generally carry voice, video and data traffic at the same time.
BKS will also move all its servers into Vodacom`s new R100 million data centre. Vodacom launched its 1 000m2 facility late last year in a move to compete with entrenched Internet service providers, such as Internet Solutions and Telkom, which both facilitate hosted services.
Wally Beelders, executive director of Vodacom Business, says it offered BKS a high-level service level agreement and could provide the company with a single bill for all the services it offered.
Globally, businesses playing in the same space as Vodacom have started to diversify and offer bundled solutions on a single bill.
Jorge Nunes, IT manager at BKS, adds: "We chose Vodacom Business as they were able to offer us not only the latest in cutting-edge technology to ensure we can effectively manage our business requirements, but they were also able to meet our stringent service level agreements."
Vodacom Business has been a long strategic process for Vodacom which, along with its competitors, is looking to become a one-stop shop for telecommunications services.
MTN recently acquired ISP Verizon Business in the hopes of competing with Vodacom Business.
