Celtel Nigeria has awarded Motorola contracts worth $70 million (about R474 million), as part of its ongoing network expansion project.
Motorola announced this morning that it would deploy its GSM solutions, including EDGE (Enhanced Data ranges for GSM Evolution), as part of Celtel`s network upgrade for data, voice, support and optimisation services.
Celtel Nigeria CEO Adebayo Ligali says the network`s increasing subscriber numbers in a densely populated area is leading it to extend its coverage, as well as drive its relationship with Motorola.
Earlier this year, the companies announced orders to the value of $50 million (about R339 million) for a GSM turnkey expansion, also aimed at increasing Celtel`s subscriber numbers.
Motorola has been doing business with Zain, which owns Celtel, for 10 years.
