Telkom senior executive for business development Wayne Song will chair a discussion on broadband infrastructure projects and applications in Africa at the annual ICT Africa Investment Summit opening in Accra, Ghana tomorrow.
The summit, which runs to Saturday, will address issues that are critical to securing increased investment in broadcasting and telecommunications infrastructure and service delivery on the continent.
The discussion being chaired by Song will include sub-topics: broadband via satellite, the satellite system, Nepad infrastructure projects, and the challenges of implementing infrastructure projects in Africa based on the telco's experience from SAT-3 operations.
Other topics will include rising to the challenge of the broadband gap in Africa; issues arising from convergence and digitalisation; spectrum planning and allocation; country strategies in deployment of broadband networks in Africa; funding sources and strategies for investing in broadband infrastructures; and issues arising from ICT infrastructure development in Africa.
"Telkom's expansion strategy commits Telkom to increasing its broadband footprint in the African continent. Our latest acquisitions of both Multi-Links and Africa Online are a case in point," states Song.
