UUNET SA, a subsidiary of MCI (NASDAQ: MCIP), today announced the launch of UUNET Mobile Office, a seamless and secure wireless data access solution supporting general packet radio service (GPRS)-enabled devices.
The solution, offered through GPRS-utilising cellular providers in SA, is a step to further the convergence of voice and data applications using advanced network technology. UUNET Mobile Office ensures that business leaders are able to work conveniently and efficiently at any time from almost anywhere in the world by simply using their GPRS-enabled PDA, cellular phone or laptop.
"UUNET Mobile Office offers a new business advantage by placing the power of mobility and anytime information access in the palm of their hand," says Rowen Chetty, Product Marketing Manager at UUNET SA.
"UUNET Mobile Office is a highly secure service built on reliable, cost-effective platforms with optional managed service capabilities that increase its value for our customers."
UUNET Mobile Office can be used with any GPRS-enabled device. Once a user makes a data call through their device, they are automatically connected to a local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), UUNET Data Centre or the Internet. UUNET Mobile Office is secured by multiple levels of user verification systems. Mobile Office operates off a Mobile Subscriber Integrated Services Digital Network Number (MSISDN) provisioning that is unique to each GPRS device; in addition to security technology implemented through the virtual private network (VPN) provisioned at each customer`s LAN.
Cellular providers currently provide network coverage across 97% of SA. This extensive national availability, combined with the international roaming capabilities of mobile wireless providers, enables best-of-breed collaboration by leveraging wireless technologies, such as GSM and GPRS and Internet network integration, to add true value to customers` existing communications solutions.
