iTouch has launched a new Web-based messaging application, iMessenger Web, which enables SMSes to be personalised even during bulk sending.

iTouch SA`s MD, Greg Brophy, says iMessenger Web offers communication via a cost-effective medium and enables businesses to stay in touch with clients any time, anywhere.

"An example of this service would be to inform customers what is owing on their account by personalising each SMS like this: `Dear John, please note that you owe R54.75. Kindly pay this by 4 July 2004. Regards ABC Inc.`, where the name, amount owing and date can be personalised for that particular recipient," says Brophy.

He says these fields are automatically inserted into the SMS from a merged comma-separated values (CSV) spreadsheet, and the service`s mail merge capability enables bulk sending of personalised SMSes.

"The advantage of being Web-based is that it requires no integration and can be accessed via any computer with Internet access, lending great mobility to the application.

"There are also templates for frequently used messages, which means a huge time-saving option, and it also has an address book function, which offers the convenience of allowing for the easy import of additional contacts from other address books or databases," he says.

"The aim of this new service is to help businesses increase their marketing effectiveness, improve customer service levels and support, and enhance customer loyalty."
