By 4pm today the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) had received two bids for the 51% stake in the second national telephone operator (SNO).
The first bid is from a consortium called Goldleaf, made up of the Premier Contracts Agency, Telecom Africa International Corporation and Gateway Communicaitons. This consortium has memorandums of understanding with MTN, British Telecoms and Siemens.
The second bid is from Optis Telecoms, a consortium including mostly South African shareholders, with a small equity stake held by Shanghai Telecom.
The cut-off for bids is close of business today.
