JCSE fosters software development

MovingHome, one of the three companies in the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering`s (JCSE`s) pre-incubation programme, has released a Web service allowing South African home owners to update address information with organisations automatically.

MovingHome CEO Peter van der Zee says 250 organisations are registered in its database, allowing users to find many of the vendors who need to be notified of the change in address when the home owner moves.

"If an organisation requires additional documentation, such as fulfilling the FICA requirements, the service will e-mail these to the user, who faxes them back to MovingHome," he says.

Van der Zee adds MovingHome, which is taking its products to market for the first time, will offer additional services in due course.

Development

JCSE CEO Rex van Olst notes MovingHome and the other two companies in its pre-incubator programme - Synergic Internet Security (Synergis) and Brainwave Projects - are moving forward with product development.

Synergis is developing software that prevents information theft, while Brainwave Projects is developing an accounting package for life insurance and funeral groups, he says.

Brainwave Projects MD Elias Mahlalela says the company, which joined the pre-incubator project in September, is developing a billing service which allows life insurance policy payments to be made via SMS.

The application will aid rural dwellers, allowing policy owners to make their R40 to R160 monthly policy payment without having to travel to the nearest town, he says.
