Click2BuyIT.com, an online technology superstore targeting SA and sub-Saharan Africa, was launched yesterday.

The company will be having a R5 million marketing campaign from 30 July until 5 August, in Nelson Mandela Square, in collaboration with companies like Fujitsu Siemens, Acer and D-link.

CEO Jean-Pierre Schmidtke, who has spent the last eight years in the UK working for a large online tech reseller, believes there is much room for growth in the online technology sales market.

He is expecting his company's turnover to top R43 million in the first year of operation.

He cites statistics showing that online retail sales in SA grew more than 35% in 2007, while cheaper ADSL and adoption of 3G cellular services resulted in last year's doubling of SA broadband users.

Click2BuyIT.com's current product portfolio stands at over 92 different brands of IT hardware and over 143 000 products.

The product range includes computers, software, peripherals, networking, communications, media, plasma screens, games, films and music, and stationery.

"We intend growing our product portfolio within a short space of time to include over 600 000 products," Schmidtke says.

The Web site provides a fully automated system, from order to delivery, and Click2BuyIT has appointed FedEx as its dedicated courier partner.

Delivery is free in the Gauteng area and an amount of R35 is charged for deliveries outside of that for purchases of under R350.
