The Internet Service Providers` Association of SA (ISPA) has elected a new management committee (mancom) for the next 12 months.
The committee will lead the 150-member strong organisation, which represents the interests of large, medium and small Internet service and access providers in SA.
Lynne Orrock, GM of the legal division of MTN Network Solutions; and Edwin Thompson, head of legal and regulatory affairs at Verizon Business, head the team as joint chairmen.
Committee members also include Marc Furman, a legal manager at Internet Solutions; Richard Heath, MWeb`s regulating director; Rob Hunter, IPX engineer at Neotel; William Stucke, founder of ZANet; and Jenny King, the director of the e-Schools` Network.
Co-opted ex officio members are Dave Gale, business development director at Storm Telecom, as well as Ant Brooks and Elaine Zinn, both co-founders of the Future Foundation.
New era
ISPA says the mancom will steer the association towards its primary goal to create a level and competitive telecommunications playing field in SA.
The mancom and working group chairmen recently met to review strategy for ISPA, and to formulate plans for 2008, the organisation says.
"The previous mancom guided ISPA through a challenging period, which ultimately culminated in several regulatory and legal achievements, most notably the Competition Tribunal`s June 2007 prohibition of Telkom`s attempted acquisition of BCX," says Orrock.
She also commended outgoing joint chairman Greg Massel for his valuable counsel through a rational and measured approach and his continued support of ISPA.
"A balanced approach has been a key ISPA trait since its inception more than a decade ago. ISPA has consistently, and even doggedly, pursued an agenda centred on transparency, competitiveness and fairness and there is every likelihood the new mancom will continue to chart the same course," says Thompson.
