Ananzi Mail has been restored after an unsuccessful migration attempt resulted in some unscheduled downtime this week. A notice has been posted on the Web site apologising for the inconvenience and indicating that Ananzi Mail is not accepting new registrations for the time being.
Ananzi users had been notified that the mail service would not be available from Thursday to Sunday, but unexpectedly high volumes of traffic downed the new system.
An estimated 50 000 Ananzi Mail users were stuck without a service from Monday until late yesterday afternoon while Ananzi MD Mark Buwala negotiated a return to the original system as an interim measure.
The migration to a new system was necessitated by a planned upgrade of the mail service with anti-spam filters and the introduction of the Ananzi Plus option to offer larger mailboxes to paying customers, says Buwalda. "Unfortunately we were unprepared for the large volume of incoming mail."
Buwalda says the necessary migration will take place before Tuesday next week, but has given the assurance the transition will be seamless and with minimal interruption to the service.
