Swist Group Technologies concluded an agreement with Vodacom Group to implement its DatavoirTM GSM Telecom Suite for Vodacom South Africa. The DatavoirTM GSM Telecom Suite will replace existing applications originally implemented by Swist Group in 1998.
Allan Beets, Vodacom Group's Billing Director, said: "DatavoirTM conforms to Vodacom's requirements for a high speed, telecommunications grade solution that is able to identify and rapidly retrieve data from many billions of transaction records."
Herman Heunis, MD of Swist Group Technologies, stated that the implementation of DatavoirTM at Vodacom South Africa was rewarding for Swist Group for two reasons.
"Firstly, DatavoirTM represents the culmination of many years of investment in our own applications and we are now proud to present a GSM Telecom Suite fully developed in SA.
Secondly, we have had the privilege of working with many excellent partners. It is therefore satisfying that one of our most valuable clients, Vodacom, is able to benefit by upgrading to DatavoirTM."
The DatavoirTM GSM Telecom Suite is a comprehensive, scalable solution which comprises a core module and 15 advanced modules. While the core module provides the basic functionality needed by most GSM networks, such as billing, fraud, basic information management and network information, the advanced modules provide more specialised functions, such as interconnect and roaming billing, advanced fraud and revenue assurance, CRM and more. As all the advanced modules plug into the core module, often hidden and expensive integration costs are avoided when upgrading or adding modules.
DatavoirTM was developed to run on high-performance, enterprise-class systems that meet the requirements of large GSM carriers needing to process hundreds of millions of transactions per day. DatavoirTM's non-proprietary data format allows accessibility to other systems through industry standard interfaces and protocols, giving the carrier the flexibility to choose future systems from the supplier best suited to its requirements.
"DatavoirTM does not only cater for large GSM carriers. Running on industry standard, off-the-shelf open source systems, it allows emerging carriers to implement their central functionality at a competitive total cost of ownership," says Heunis. "One of the major complaints these carriers have is that although their existing systems work well enough, but they don't have access to their call data records (CDRs). DatavoirTM provides full access to these records. In addition, Datavoir's flexibility allows carriers to scale and grow into next-generation network capabilities such as GPRS, IP and MMS via the core or advanced modules - without breaking the bank."
