The Maxtor Shared Storage solution was developed in anticipation of an explosive global rise in home offices and home networking. According to US research company In-Stat, more than 97 million consumers worldwide will have home networks by 2008.
"The Maxtor Shared Storage product combines simple network storage with printer sharing and exclusive Drag and Sort technology that gets users up and running quickly and easily," says Stacey Lund, executive director of Maxtor`s branded products.
Lund says the product simply plugs into a network router via a 10/100 Ethernet port, installs quickly from CD, and automatically configures the network.
"To organise files on the drive, users simply select and drag files into a special PC desktop icon and Maxtor`s Drag and Sort feature automatically sorts them based on file type and puts them in specific music, photo, video or document folders," says Lund.
The Maxtor Shared Storage solution comes in a 200GB or 300GB storage capacity, includes two USB ports to connect and share USB printers or additional external storage drives, and is scheduled to be available locally in March 2005.
