Cinema-quality images in the comfort of your home

Johannesburg, 17 Feb 2003

Movie maniacs who revel in the magic of home cinema can now enjoy an even more powerful, moving picture experience, thanks to the introduction of the next-generation home cinema projectors by NPC (Electronics) Limited the exclusive importer and distributor of Panasonic and Technics products in South Africa ("Panasonic"). So says Ben Hunt, director: Panasonic Office Automation, IT and Telecommunications Systems, announcing the addition of the Panasonic PT-AE200 and PT-AE300 Home Cinema Projectors to the company^1s portfolio of leading-edge projector products from the first quarter of this year.

As successors to the popular and successful PT-AE100, which made its d'ebut early in 2002, the PT-AE200 and PT-AE300 projectors are extremely compact and readily portable - both models weigh just 2.9kg. Belying their size, the two variants offer a host of functions and features generally found only on larger and bulkier machines.

For example, the new additions to the range feature high-resolution 16:9 wide-screen LCD panels for extra picture quality; an extra short-throw lens allowing large images to be displayed in small rooms (80-inch wide-screen at just 2.5 metres); and easy-to-operate, inherently flexible setting options. The choice of six picture modes allows you to adjust the image-colour to the type of entertainment you^1re viewing to ensure optimal picture quality. Choose from:

* Normal - Standard brightness, suitable for a wide variety of image sources;

* Cinema 1 - Soft, film-like quality with ideal gradation for movies;

* Cinema 2 - Vivid, clear movie images;

* Music - Vivid, high-impact quality, suitable for video clips and live performances;

* Dynamic - Brightens the image for shots taken in brightly-lit environments; and

* Sports - Provides sharp, clear images in dark areas.

Then there`s the projectors` high contrast ratio of 800:1 and 700:1 coupled with 800 ANSI and 700 ANSI lumens in the AE300 and AE200 respectively. Infinitely more versatile than DVD, the pair of projectors feature a wide range of component connectors including video, s-video, and PC input; as well as component DVD and game machines. The addition of Digital Video Interface (DVI) in the AE300 allows the machine to accept digital signals directly from PCs

Easy to set-up, both machines have built-in vertical keystone correction capability. Being the more sophisticated model, the AE300 also boasts horizontal keystone correction, ensuring entirely distortion-free images regardless of the angle to the screen at which the projector is placed.

Last, but by no means least, both the AE200 and the AE300 have Secure Digital ("SD") Memory Card slots, making the machines compatible with a wide variety of consumer-orientated electronics products. "This means that you can now project images taken with a digital still or digital video camera and stored on SD Memory Card on a large screen, using one of these new projectors," explains Hunt. "Turn your JPEG still images into a slide show, or enjoy for MPEG-4 clips as home movies - the choice is yours."

Describing the projectors as five-star performers, Hunt says: "Both the AE200 and AE300 offer an incredible wide-screen video experience - whether you`re watching movies or playing video games. What`s more, both machines are stylish and attractive in design, their silver finish making them a suitable addition to either a corporate or a home environment. They^1re certain to be well-received on the South African market."
