Security top concern for online bankers

The Beijing Morning Post in conjunction with iResearch, recently conducted a survey on consumer attitude toward the use of online payments, says People's Daily.

The survey result shows security is still the main factor that netizens take into consideration when making online payments, with 66.3% of all users surveyed considering security the most important thing when it comes to the use of online banking.

The survey indicates that 79.2% of participants currently use online banking services, while 8.46% used online banking services in the past but no longer do. Of those surveyed, 1% have had money stolen.

ATM iPhone app released

Technology Credit Union has released an ATM/location finder iPhone app in partnership with the location aggregation provider, LocatorSearch, according to Finextra.

Available for free at the iPhone App Store, the application allows Tech CU members the ability to conveniently locate the nearest surcharge-free ATM from Tech CU's extensive database of more than 60 000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide.

The application also gives members the ability to log in to the credit union's mobile banking platform (go.techcu.com) from within their iPhone App and securely access their online banking account information to view account activity, make transfers, and pay bills and more.

Trojan targets banking details

Malware authors, always opportunistic, are hoping that people will click on an e-mail that claims to be from Western Union - and contains malware, writes InternetNews.

The e-mails say that a payment sent by Western Union failed to arrive, and come with an attachment. The attachment is a Trojan. The Trojan itself is not new. It's a variant of a Trojan first spotted almost a year ago, according to security research firm MX Lab.

MX Lab said in a blog post that the Trojan is "a banking Trojan that disables firewall, steals sensitive financial data (credit card numbers, online banking login details), makes screen snapshots, downloads additional components, and provides a hacker with the remote access to the compromised system".
